Movember may be coming to an end but Mohawk College is still raising awareness – and funds – for this worthwhile cause. Movember is celebrated worldwide and is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. On Movember 1st, participating men registered at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. Then, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way to fine moustachery for the rest of the month.
Mo Bros raise these much needed funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts. Mohawk College recently held a Movember fundraising event at the STARRT campus. The Student Engagement team at STARRT organized a pie-in-the-face fundraiser to collect donations in support of Movember. Staff, faculty, MSA student government members, and students at STARRT all participated for a good cause. The campus raised over $300 at the Movember event – great job everyone! Even one of our own library staff members joined in the festivities. April, our resident Library Technician at STARRT, was a willing participant and the recipient of a pieing by her own son, in her efforts to support Mo Bros everywhere.
Movember participants effectively become walking, talking billboards for the month of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health. The Mohawk College Library has these books to help you learn more about men’s health, and for those of you who prefer journals and magazines, we’ve got those too!
It’s not too late to support this worthwhile cause and fine moustachery everywhere. You can support individual team members, or one of our Mohawk College teams; staff and students have a friendly competition happening right now! You can also support the Movember movement with a general donation.
